ANTALYA
Known as the 'Capital of the Turkish Riviera ' ,Antalya is a big city where old and new peacefully co-exist. not built just for tourists, the attraction of Antalya is its genuine feel. Surrounded by the Taurus Mountains, Antalya is a city built on cliffs over looking the Mediterranean Sea. The beaches offer spectacular views of the snow capped mountains. There are inviting beaches-Konyaaltę, covered in smooth pale pebbles, while Lara Beach offers long stretches of sunbaked coarse sand. Lining the picturesque harbour below the ancient city walls, there are tempting little cafes,restaurants and bars. Just behind the harbour there is 'Kebab Street' which is lined with traditional Turkish restaurants and after dark the city has plenty of entertainment on offer. The old quarter seems to have changed little over the years, here you can browse and barter for everything from jewellery and leather goods to hand made carpets and kilims. While sharing an apple tea with the storekeeper. You will find many reminders of Antalya's long and eventful history. As well as picturesque minarets, mosques, walls and towers the beautifully restored old harbour has an impressive gateway built in AD 130 to commemorate the visit of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. Antalya is situated on the cliffs at the extreme end of the Gulf, and the city centre is located within the old defence walls surrounding the harbour. It is also one of the most improtant centres of Art and Culture in Turkey with annual Art and Film festival and also Jewel festival.
